Most days David will poke his head into my office and say, “Hey, guess how much _____ is now, compared to when I last looked?” The item in question is always a piece of tech: security cameras, RAM, server components, monitors, or external storage. By now, I don’t even have to consider my response. I sigh and say, “More. A lot more. A full factor more.” Our internal staff chat is a daily flurry of links to gear, followed by shocked responses of emojis and expletives.
The combination of economy-wide inflation, a constantly shifting tariff landscape, a drain on the existing supply of memory chips, and the fact that all dynamic RAM currently in production is already spoken for by AI data centers means we are in a moment where prices are increasing every single day.
If you and your organization are considering your 2026 goals and expanding infrastructure is a piece of the puzzle, we earnestly suggest you act sooner rather than later. Projects pushed off by just three months may see a 15% or more cost increase, simply because the market is moving. (David’s educated guess is that anything with RAM in it will increase at least 30% by spring.) Like lumber costs in 2021 and egg costs in 2024, tech gear is going to be one of the major talking points in 2026. Get ahead of the wave if you can!
