How long has it been since you’ve done a services and subscriptions assessment on your business? This is a great activity for a slow Friday afternoon, when there isn’t enough time to dive into an entirely new project but you’ve still got an hour or two to fill before the end of the day.
How to conduct an internal subscriptions assessment:
- Make a list of all the subscriptions and services your organization currently pays for. This can be made easier by referring to a recent credit card statement or by querying your team.
- Consider which are still used daily. Weekly? Monthly? Quarterly? Are they worth the current cost, at their rate of use?
- Take a moment and log in to your most-used software and apps. Do they have any new features you haven’t taken advantage of yet? Most critically: do any of those features overlap with other subscriptions you are paying for? This is a chance to save some money!
How to conduct a cost-saving assessment of those subscriptions:
- Once a year, set aside time to call the customer service team for each of your services. Ask them if they have any new discount programs running that you can take advantage of. Describe the work you do and paint a complete picture. Are you a nonprofit? A brand new business? A minority owned and operated endeavor? There are a myriad of programs and products for businesses of every type. It’s worth asking if you are eligible for anything new!
- Try typing the name of your service into Google and seeing what else pops up. Competing businesses will appear and may offer lower prices. It is worth checking out.
